Berlin: Edgy and Insane

The most shocking thing about Berlin, for me, was the color of the trees. Their leaves were so bright, brighter than I’ve ever seen and it wasn’t just one area, it was all the trees! The trees offered beauty in this dark and industrial city.

The first day I spent in Berlin, I went on an alternative tour. The things that I saw on this tour, I would not have seen on my own. There was an art loft that we were taken to and the artist there had all of his original work displayed. He makes money by selling prints of his work. We weren’t allowed to take pictures (sorry) but I will find out his name and maybe you can google him.

Ok, so here are some words/phrases/adjectives etc. to describe the entire week:

Heathen’s Paradise, music, chairs, sand, drinks, sun, birds, river, art, graffiti, bubbles, mosaic, history, sadness, reflection, facts, silence, techno, pump up the jam, currywurst, doner, train, tram, validate ticket, Alexander Platz, Karl-Mark Allee, broken glass, riot police, turkish music, pizza, heat, black and grey crows, paint, modernity, Reichstag, columns, dancing, hostels, New Zealand cafe, Deutsche, people, Berlin wall, ampelmann, Checkpoint Charlie, color, parks, naked people, massive sidewalks, sunsets, accordion, bullet holes, statues, puppets, right side of the road, reading, smokey, place of recreation.

There was a day that I went to three museums. I saw a lot of German classical artwork. I saw tons of statues which I love. I saw my favorite painting: The Isle of the Dead. It is one of 5 versions that the artist painted. I had no idea that one of them was in the museum until I opened up the program. I spent some time looking at it. I teared up a little. It was beautiful. I have discovered that I am in love with museums and pretty much all art. Some people only like 19th century paintings, Islamic architecture, etc. but I love it all! I have my favorites of course, but really, I feel like I can appreciate most art.

The craziest thing I did in Berlin was following a truck with people shouting a cause in German and dancing for blocks behind them. It was amazing.
