My Homeland

So I went to Ireland. I have been waiting my whole life to see it and now I have. I will definitely be going back to it in my lifetime. It is a place I will forever love. It is greener than I imagined and lively as can be. It is almost like what your imagination sees when you read literature that describes a utopia.

I explored Dublin with a great friend, Mandy and a few others who went along with us. We took a tour of the Wicklow mountains which are about 40 minutes outside of the city. We visited the tallest village in Ireland and saw where the river Liffey started. The river Liffey runs through Dublin. I walked over it via a couple foot bridges. We also went to the oldest place I have ever been. It was a monastery and it was built in the 6th century! All the stone was built up on each other without mortar, just dry stone. It was incredible and unfathomably old.

With Mandy, we visited a neighborhood, Blackrock, that was on the coastline. We were gathering shells when the tide started to come in. Almost immediately after we had left, the tide had come in right where we were standing! We went to a little market that sold books, comics, flowers, photography and clothes. In this market was a cafe where we had lunch. We ordered Banoffee pie again and they made it from scratch, just for us! It was delicious.

We went to a few museums and I saw my first Picasso. It was pretty intense but it was so hot in the room that I forgot to write down the name of it. Sorry :(. I also saw some original Monet’s and some contemporary art that I did not understand.

We went to the Zoo and it was a perfect day. We saw almost every animal! Some were sleeping but we still saw them. The only one that we didn’t see was the Arctic Fox. He alluded our gaze. We did see a snow leopard, an Abyssinian Ground Hornbill (freaked us out), rhinos, penguins and the CUTEST red panda. It had a raccoon tail. Most adorable animal, I want one now.

Ireland was basically the most relaxation I have had here on my study abroad. I have been packing in so many things I sometimes forget to breathe. Maybe that’s why I liked it so much. Since Ireland I have been keeping busy. I went to Cambridge and discovered that EVERY person has a bike, even the elderly. I am seeing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tomorrow (play) which hopefully will be good. I have seen it before and the only reason I am going is because my Professor bought the tickets already. Wednesday I am going to Stonehenge which I am completely stoked for. So you will hear of that fairly soon.
