The first comic I read from image was Elephantmen no. 1. They offer the first comic for free. I connected with Ebony (an elephant) right away and admired his trench coat. Elephants are quite handsome in coats. I received Elephantmen TP Vol. 3 the first day of my internship and am stoked to read it. As my internship is coming to an end, I just received Vol. 1 but I still need to get my hands on Vol. 2. PS: TP stands for Trade Paperback and a future PS: HC stands for Hard Cover. I have always feared the inevitable size of my comics library but am starting to accept that it will be massive and alphabetized.
Let’s see what I have been reading! Dead@17, The Light, The Pro, Dynamo 5: Sins of the Father and Hack/Slash: My First Maniac. What am I in the middle of…well here goes: Cowboy Ninja Viking Vol. 1, The Walking Dead Vol. 1, Hellcity: The Whole Damn Thing and The Mice Templar: Destiny Part One. Some of these are TP’s or HC’s and they take me longer. Granted, Dead@17 Ultimate Edition 1 is a TP and I booked it through that. I hate to admit I have been so eager to read everything that I can’t finish anything. I just got a swanky bookmark, see photo above, so maybe that will help me finish what I have started.
Ok time to focus. Let’s start with Dead@17. This one peaked my interest because it’s main character is a back from the dead, bad ass chick with power and strength to take out the gross and demonic. Just to let you know, these are the characters I love. Shout out to Buffy! It has fantastically inked pages, vivid colors and simple lines. Granted I’m not an artist or an art critic really but I know what I like. What I like most about Dead@17 is how the plot turns and turns again. The author has a knack for keeping the audience interested.
Just last night I read and finished Turf #2. Can we say vampires and robots combined? YES. Turf is something I would definitely recommend to those who enjoy the elegance of the 1930’s, well dressed vampires and Fifth Element style robots. There are a couple different plot lines keeping my generational ADD in check. Now onto finishing on of the TP’s I mentioned earlier.
