After a lifetime spent landlocked on her parents farm, Ula sets out to explore the farthest reaches of the world and unfurl the mysteries of a life lived adrift in an earthen sea.
The striking visuals, created through Ayres’s descriptive storytelling, and the relatable protagonist Ula will end up staying in your heart long after reading this short story. I admired how gracefully the story welcomed me into Ula’s world and within the first few pages, there’s a coming of age feeling about her experiences that’s intriguing. What captured my imagination the most was the compelling mythos Ayres built―it’s the kind that fantasy lovers can get behind.
