To sum up the ECCC this past weekend in Seattle, WA I have one word: Whirlwind. Used with a positive connotation of course! For me, the weekend lasted from Friday at 8:15 am to Sunday at 8:30 pm. I volunteered to work at Image Comics’ Booth #706 and had tons of fun doing so. Besides seeing lots of Image folks I worked with last summer, I met seasoned and up-and-coming comic book creators, artists and writers. There were roughly 16-22 people at the booth at any given time and at least 25,000 fans.

Some of the more notable things this past weekend included a man dressed as the silver surfer, who had painted his whole body with silver paint and donned silver booty shorts; two girls who dressed as Kalee Frye and River Tam from Firefly, who looked like the respective actresses; and interacting with a slew of comic book creators I promoted last summer, read about and typed their names furiously into the Image Comics Newsletter for three months. As a fellow geek, I had Nathan Edmondson of “The Light,” Nick Spencer of “Morning Glories,” Jay Faerber of “Dynamo5,” Michel Gagne of “The Saga of Rex,” and Scott Kowalchuk and Kurtis J. Wiebe of “The Intrepids” sign their comics for my modest collection.

As I sat filming the Image Comics’ New Favorites Panel on Friday, one of my favorite moments was the way Kowalchuk described “The Intrepids” as, “…the cat’s pajamas.” This phrase dating back to the 1920’s, when pajamas became fashionable, is quite accurate after having read the first issue. The characters are the most stylish dressers I have seen in comics. Of course, it’s not about the clothes, it’s about mad scientists and those that seek to prevent certain cyber-bears from getting loose! It’s incredibly entertaining, intriguing and character driven, which is great for me because now I just want to know more about the character backgrounds. Check out their Multiversity Comics interview (see me in the background at 2:03 and 7:52 hahahaha)!

Some other awesome people I met included, Jim Zubkavich of Skullkickers and Sina Grace of Lil’ Depressed Boy, which just sold out-Congrats Sina! After experiencing Comic Con behind the scenes, I look forward to working with Image at future cons and promoting their creator-owned books, because really, they are the best!

Keep reading, visiting your local comic book retailer and maybe someday soon, you’ll be seeing my name on a comic book. I’ll let you know when of course!
