Store Stories: Out of Eggs, Not Booze

Recently my husband, Ross, and I moved from the west coast to the east coast. I’m applying to jobs, filling my time with writing, and going to the grocery store more frequently. We live walking distance to a Whole Foods and man, there have been some interesting things happening there, so much so I feel like documenting them.

Here are a few experiences to start off with:

Winesday
Right after our move we discovered Winesday: A 2-hour tasting with snacks that happens every Wednesday. We went one Winesday without knowing it, and it was so packed we could barely walk around to get to the cheese. Everyone was dressed up, which is a normal thing on this side of the country.

DesperATE for Food
Not really desperate, just hungry and lacking on the breakfast front, Ross and I tried out the hot bar. There were ready-made eggs benedict and bacon so we dove in. It wasn’t amazing but I guess it was better than McDonalds. No, thinking back, I would have preferred Mickey D’s.

Out of Eggs, Not Booze
Due to the hellacious wintry weather on the east coast there’s an egg shortage, at least at Whole Foods. However, there’s not a shortage of booze. I went to get some dry white wine to make some dressing and there was a bartender there who offered me a tasting to help me decide.

Oh yeah, there is a horseshoe-like bar that seats at least eight. I have not seen it with less than three people. I guess this is a thing at some locations that has been a thing for about four years.

I accepted his offer, and he had me try a Côtes du Rhône and another white that tasted like a sauvignon blanc. Strangely the former was cheaper and more delicious. And it tasted good before I found out the price. I don’t normally want to hang out in grocery stores but they are making me want to…to be honest, it’s kinda weird.
